ABSTRACT
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) affect 50-80% of the adult population, which makes it a disease of a civilization dimension and is classified according to WHO as the third most frequent reason for patients to visit a dental office. The peak incidence of temporomandibular disorders is between 30 and 40 years of age. The symptoms of TMD, as well as its etiology, are very diverse and depend on the individual susceptibility to stress and the threshold of pain excitability. The literature on the subject emphasizes the great role of physiotherapy in the treatment of patients suffering from TMD. In the case of these patients, both invasive and non-invasive procedures are used, including the recently popular kinesiotaping. This method uses an elastic band that is attached to the surface of the skin. The use of taping can be an useful technique for a rapid pain relieve in symptomatic TMD patients. In addition, it is an effective complement to conventional treatments for TMD and its symptoms.
