ABSTRACT
Prosthetic crowns are one of the most commonly used fixed dental prostheses. Among many available materials and construction types, porcelain-fused-to-metal and porcelain-fused-to-zirconia crowns are the most frequently fabricated. The practitioner’s awareness of indications and contraindications for such prostheses, the physical and chemical properties of materials used and the repair options facilitate proper treatment planning. Before deciding to use a certain type of crown, it is compulsory to conduct an in-depth interview and physical examination, which will enable effective rehabilitation of the masticatory system. None of the currently available dental prostheses are universally clinically applicable. It is the role of the dentist to choose a solution, which will provide satisfactory esthetics, proper function, and longevity in the intra-oral environment.
