ABSTRACT
Fractures of crowns of permanent teeth most often occur among children aged 8-10 years, and are more common in boys. Protruding maxillary incisors are particularly vulnerable to damage in children with increased overjet, Angle’s Class II malocclusion and reduced muscle tone (e.g. lip incompetence). These are conditions that require immediate treatment due to the risk of complications or even failure during subsequent treatment. Treatment is often multi-specialist and thus requires the cooperation of a paedodontist, orthodontist, prosthodontist and oral surgeon. The therapeutic priority is to restore function and aesthetics and to shape the correct growth of adolescent patients. Post-traumatically, the patient must remain under observation for many years due to the continuous development of the stomatognathic system, the need to monitor possible disorders in the course of bone growth and the assessment of the condition of the teeth (ankylosis, pulp necrosis, etc.). This paper presents a description of three patients of developmental age who sustained coronal fractures of their permanent teeth. The importance of the interview, physical and radiological examination, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in various types of injuries to the crowns of permanent teeth, has been discussed. Dental injuries and their consequences can negatively impact the aesthetics, function and development of the stomatognathic system, as well as the child’s psychological and emotional development. Proper treatment of crown fractures provides a chance for a favourable, long-term dental prognosis.
