ABSTRACT
Background:
Modern dental prosthetics is based on minimally invasive tooth preparation. More and more often, prosthetic indirect restorations, which are cemented adhesively to the system, are used. This way we retain the aesthetics of natural tissues.
Aim of the study:
To review the literature in order to obtain the current state of knowledge and to identify the key factors affecting the quality of dentine bonding with prosthetic replacements following IDS procedures.
Material and methods:
The scientific literature review method based on the Pub Med and Scopus scientific databases was used in the study for the following index entries: IDS, immediate dentine sealing, indirect adhesive restoration. The search was limited to articles in English in the years 2013-2023 only. The initial search revealed 30 articles from the Pub Med database and 39 from the Scopus database. They were subsequently
analysed and duplicates were removed leaving a
total of 15 papers to study.
Results:
The vast body of literature on the
benefits of the Immediate Dentine Sealing (IDS)
technique indicates significant differences in
comparison with delayed dentine sealing. The
IDS procedure provides more effective bond
strength and reduces polymerization shrinkage.
Conclusions:
The use of the IDS technique can
have many advantages in the tooth preparation
procedures for adhesive restorations. The IDS
technique creates a promising solution, but it
requires development and improvement.
