ABSTRACT
The aim of the study is to present the procedure for making a customized post and core made of zirconium oxide ceramic in the CAD/CAM system and to describe the advantages and disadvantages of this type of prosthetic restorations. The post and core impression and the plaster model, the model of the opposing teeth and the lateral occlusion recorder were scanned in the Edge device (DOF, Korea). Virtual models of the impression and the working model were superimposed in the DOF scan-app scanner programme. The data was sent to the CAD Exocad programme, where a virtual post and core was designed, and then to the CAM Millbox programme. The restoration was milled from the 3Y-TPZ Aidite Suprfect Zir HTW block in the CORiTEC 350i PRO + Loader milling machine (imes-icore). Difficulties in the manufacture of ceramic posts and cores, problems with the selection of the appropriate thickness of a zirconia ceramic block have been described. The advantages and disadvantages of these restorations are presented. The fracture resistance of teeth restored with ceramics posts and their durability are shown in this paper. The CAD/CAM technology enables the production of zirconia post and cores. The clinical use of these restorations should always be considered with respect to their properties, advantages and disadvantages.
